This is yet another utterly unique, never-to-be-repeated little rack that you will not find, ever again, anywhere else. I cannot put a date on the hooks but clearly they are very old, high milers that have taken on a lovely lived-in look over time. All I know about them is that they were removed from a barn during restoration work, helping to confirm their heritage. My eye immediately tells me Dog Leads, but these tough, no-nonsense hooks would work just as well as conventional coat hooks for the usual household repertoire of things in need of a hook.
Perfectly suited to these rugged hooks is a gorgeous section of waney or rustic-edge English oak. This is oak taken from a tree felled in a storm on the National Trust's Stourhead Estate in Wiltshire in around 2000. The knots are absolutely beautiful, shown off to best effect with Briwax's Rustic Pine beeswax, which stains and produces a lovely gloss finish all in one go. As with each hook, the plinth itself attaches to the wall with three black Japanned fixing screws.
