History: This lovely traditional hat & coat rack was originally a special commission for the National Trust. Used as a prop in a special exhibition - 'Harry's Story' - at the Trust's flagship property, Stourhead, the rack is now available for purchase. The wood is a section of Victorian antique pine floorboard, which was stripped and restained dark oak. The deep cut-out corner pips and large ogee routed edge give the rack a distinctive antique look.
In keeping with the era of Stourhead House, which was built in the 1720s, the hooks are the classic Georgian-era acorn-tip design. Popular then and popular now, these are big and bold and extremely substantial. Made from solid brass, they will darken over time but can be brought back to life with a brass cleaning agent, if desired. Harry, incidentally, was the son of the Hoare banking family who was tragically killed in the First World War.
